GET TO KNOW: Pared Eyewear

Allow us to introduce you to Pared – a new Australian eyewear line launched for spring/summer 2013 by Samantha Stevenson, who previously designed eyewear for ksubi.

Based on the word “pared” (i.e. to clip or cut down), the line features unique, sculpted silhouettes with layered acetates and refined shapes. The brand name is also a play on the word “paired,” exploring the idea that everything works better in twos. The unisex collection plays on the dichotomy between masculine and feminine, old and new, classic and modern.

For spring/summer, Stevenson chose the theme “Now and Then.” The idea, she explains, is to preserve old-time quality while creating “new classics” with fresh techniques and designs. The collection takes inspiration from classic shapes (rounded, cat eye), while playing up a more modern colour palette of bright blues and tangerine orange to contrast the classic black, tortoiseshell, and nude. Always one to push herself, Stevenson also experimented by injecting some interesting materials like metal and leather into some of the sunglass frames. And there are subtle details as well, like the small “p” engraved on both arms, thereby creating another pairing.

We had a chance to see the frames up close and they definitely stand out. The glasses are made for people who want something different from the norm, and aren’t afraid to get a little extra attention. Check out to learn more about the company and to see where the brand is sold.
