California eyewear line Oliver Peoples is landing in Toronto for a 10 day shop-in-shop at Karir Eyewear’s Yorkville location from June 13-22. The first of its kind shop will feature more than 400 frames across the Oliver Peoples family, including frames by Paul Smith, and the launch of the Stella McCartney Eyewear Collection. This is the largest collection of Oliver Peoples eyewear in one store outside of their flagship boutiques.
Karir Eyewear was the first Optical store in Canada to carry Oliver Peoples – with a relationship with the team that goes back more than 25 years. To mark the occasion, the Yorkville store will be completely transformed, with special offers and customization options.
To get you excited for the Shop-in-Shop, we’ve picked our top five frames available at the event and teamed up with our friends at Karir to give you a chance to WIN your very own pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses (up to $500 in value).
Read on for our top five picks and to enter the contest!
1. Paul Smith “Seaton”
The Shop-in-Shop will have the last five pairs from this rubberized frame’s limited-edition run. With it’s angular brow line, soft tones and matte finish, these shades were inspired by days of summers past. Adding to the inspiration, the line “Good Day Sunshine” is imprinted in Paul’s handwriting on the inside of the temples, while the outside temple tip features his signature.
2. Oliver Peoples “505”
These thin profile frames were the very first pair of glasses released by Oliver Peoples, back in 1987. Based off an original design by Larry Leight, these were also one of the first optical frames available with a clip-on option for sunglasses. Notice the antique metal detailing on the temple and bridge, as well as the double rivets where the frames widen toward the center. The glasses are available in three different shades of tortoiseshell as well as a matte black. Encouraged to re-release this iconic model, Leight personally reached out to the original Japanese factory that produced these frames to reproduce a limited quantity.
3. Stella McCartney “SM2002”
The latest extension of her Ready-to-Wear collection, Stella McCartney’s eyewear line continues her interplay between hard-and-soft, masculine and feminine, and retro and modern-inspired aesthetics. Our favourite is a pair of bookish, oversized frames in matte black. The clean lines are signature Stella, while the soft dip at the bridge and the raised temple detailing add visual interest and texture. The entire eyewear collection also embraces McCartney’s environmentally-friendly philosophy: more than 50% of the materials used to create the frames are from natural sources.
4. Oliver Peoples “Alivia”
Add a subtle pop of colour to your summer wardrobe with these soft, teal “Alivia” sunglasses. Inspired by Hollywood sirens like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, these elegant, rounded frames are handcrafted from beautiful acetate for a look that’s chic and feminine, with a playful nod to the past.
5. Paul Smith “Elson”
We are obsessed with these “Elson” sunglasses from Paul Smith! From the “Sky Tortoise” pattern on the frames (which plays into the “ombre” trend) to the crystal blue lenses, we love the unexpected colour combinations. These slick shades feature a plastic frame and metal temples, with art-inspired striping on the inside of the temples and the Paul Smith signature on the tip. This is an edgy, fashion-forward look that will definitely get you some attention on the streets this summer. You must tweet us a pic if you end up trying these on at the Shop-in-Shop!
