As we embark to Osheaga, an annual music festival in Montreal, QC, we have music and eyewear on the brain. Bringing these two together, is designer John Varvatos’ unisex eyewear line, which draws inspiration from urban living, vintage American style, and good old fashioned rock n’ roll.

Known for his decidedly tough yet tailored menswear line, Varvatos applies the same principles to his eyewear collection, which feature eclectic takes on classic shapes. The difference, as they say, is in the details. Motifs from the John Varvatos clothing line are replicated on the eyewear: the temples include his J.V. initials, a crown, guitar, and a shield with the date Varvatos’ company was founded. The Varvatos double V stitching, meantime, is etched in the corner of the lenses. Even the guitar headstock, featured as an apparel zipper, is present in the eyewear as frame temple details. Add in some interesting colour combos on the frames and lenses, and you have a pair of summer festival-ready shades that combine old-world craftsmanship with rock star style.

Here are three of our favourite frames from the John Varvatos eyewear collection, each hand-crafted with interesting details like bevelled edges, acetate rims and a laser engraved top rim (see first style below).
