We loved seeing Judy in these vintage-inspired sunglasses from Cutler and Gross. The wide rectangular shape and exaggerated edges give these frames a distinct, retro look, perfect to fill out a fuller face. The narrow profile, meantime, keeps it soft and feminine. These black acetate frames are all hand-made and then hand-polished for a subtle sheen. We love how they add a touch of whimsy to Judy’s oufit – fun and funky, without going over the top.
We caught Juan sporting these cool Cutler and Gross shades while visiting The Hollywood Reporter Lounge at Brassaii during TIFF. Juan buys glasses for their shape and he loved this 0984 frame for its oversized look. The higher brow-line and bridge add to its slightly boxy and handsome appearance. Juan also confessed to a love for anything tortoiseshell, and this green camo print caught his eye as a new take on the tortoiseshell pattern. It’s still subtle enough to coordinate with different outfits, but special enough to garner a second (and third) look.
Like all Cutler and Gross frames, this pair was cut from sheets of acetate that were then hand polished and hand assembled. All the pins and hinges are screwed in without the use of machinery or glue, giving each pair of glasses a truly bespoke feeling.
Fitting to his name, George was decked out in all white at the recent PowerBall party in Toronto. The statement piece had to be these limited-edition Cutler and Gross frames that George bought at Spectacle. The frames have an icy, crystallized look to them, but the wide brow-line and thick temples maintain a masculine edge. And while we’ve seen a lot of clear plastic frames, these ones are slightly more opaque, elevating the look from “geek-chic” to high-end luxury. (Sidenote: George loved these frames so much, that he bought another pair in black!)
Nicholas Mellamphy is the vice president and buying director of The Room at The Bay, and he’s known as much for his statement eyewear as he is for the impressive job he has done in making The Room one of Canada’s most elegant and impressive shopping spaces. We caught up with Nicholas during a party for Serbian designer Roksanda Ilincic, and were taken by these golden chestnut-coloured frames from Cutler and Gross.
The 0772 is one of the company’s signature models and has been worn by everyone from Martin Scorcese to British rapper Tinie Tempah. We love the vintage-inspired look of these thick acetate frames and it seems as though Nicholas loves them too: he has these glasses in three different colours!
From her striped sweater to the Chanel bag to the red lips and thick black frames, Barb’s look is classic chic through and through. Rather than letting the bold frames overwhelm her, Barb makes them a statement accessory that perfectly compliments not only her wardrobe, but her personality as well.
Golta definitely caught our eye with these bold “Strawberry”-colored frames from Cutler and Gross. Having worn prescription lenses since the age of five, Golta says she’s learned to embrace them as a fashion accessory and estimates that she has about ten pairs of glasses in rotation. Lately she’s been favoring this 0737 model – a modern take on a vintage style that was first produced by the British brand in the 1980s.
