We already love Scandinavian style when it comes to clothing (see: Acne, Henrik Vibskov, Filippa K, H&M) but the minimalist design aesthetic can also be seen these days in some chic eyewear, courtesy of Danish brand Han Kjøbenhavn.
Rooted in traditional Danish craftsmanship, this Copenhagen-based clothing and accessories brand has developed a collection of sunglasses that is at once simple and purposeful; nothing wasted or over-wrought. Influenced by classic Scandinavian furniture designers and artists, the frames combine quality materials and thoughtful construction with modern details.
For summer 2013, Han Kjøbenhavn experimented with soft colors, curves and unique prints to create glasses that are original and ethereal, yet still totally easy to wear. The frames feature a similar integrity, handmade from Italian acetate and nickel-free hinges. The lenses used are all provided by centuries-old German-manufacturer, Carl Zeiss.
Though its head office is in Copenhagen, the company recently opened a flagship store in New York’s SoHo neighbourhood. You can view their entire eyewear collection in store or online. Select styles are also available at J.Crew.
